Fertility Reflexology
The term infertility or sub-fertility is used if a couple have been trying to conceive for 12 months or more. This can occur when a couple are trying for their first baby (Primary Infertility) or for a second child after having a successful pregnancy the first time (Secondary Infertility). Sometimes medical tests may show that there is no medical reason (Unexplained Infertility) for a couples ability to conceive.
The ability to conceive depends on many different factors, but it is essential that both partners are in optimum health to enable this to happen. The demands of modern lifestyle puts everyone under pressure, many fall into patterns of behaviour that they are unaware of and this can potentially have an impact on health and fertility.
Factors that may affect fertility
- longer working hours, which can lead to stress and anxiety
- poor diet and erratic eating habits, convenience foods and increased alcohol consumption
- too much or too little exercise
If medical tests show that there is no medical reason for a couple to conceive, lifestyle issues may contribute to infertility and if a couple have been trying to conceive for some time the stress and anxiety this causes can be all-consuming which also may affect their ability to conceive.
Fertility reflexology is a calming and balancing holistic therapy that can help to ease emotional and physical stress and tension. Regular reflexology treatment, coupled with lifestyle changes by both partners can greatly improve fertility.
Hormonal factors that can affect fertility:
- Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
- Endometriosis
- Irregular periods
- Amenorrhoea
- Sporadic ovulation
The hormone balancing effects of fertility reflexology can encourage regular periods, help promote ovulation and ease symptoms of PCOS and Endometriosis.
Fertility Investigations and Procedures
Fertility reflexology can be used effectively at the very start of fertility investigations to ease anxiety and stress to help cope with any medical tests that may be required and prepare the body emotionally and physically for any fertility drugs that may be prescribed.
Some may find that after medical investigation that they will require to embark upon Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) procedures such as
If ART procedures have already started fertility reflexology can gently support the body physically and emotionally throughout the treatment ahead. Fertility reflexology treatments at this time will ensure that the body is in the best possible condition and optimise the chances of a successful outcome.
